WATER MANAGEMENT AND AUDITING

Visnu Varatan

Mr. Visnu Varatan is a specialist in water management and audit specialist and currently working a lot in the manufacturing sector to reduce water wastages and water consumptions. These works contribute to efforts by companies to improve water utilization efficiency that can lead to achieve  targets in the Sustainability Development Goal 6(SDG6).

Mr. Visnu completed his education in University of Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia with Bachelor of Electronic Engineering (Hons) and later obtained a master’s degree in industrial Electronics and Control Engineering from University Malaya. He is also a Registered Electrical Energy Manager with Energy Commission of Malaysia.

Mr. Visnu specializes in cooling tower water management and water treatment plant such as analyzing cycle of concentration in cooling tower to optimize water consumptions using electrical conductivity test and measuring rate of evaporation and in feasibility studies to store second source of water and RO water. Among his works are performed water audit and water management analysis in Duopharma Manufacturing plant and Duopharma Marketing Sdn Bhd in Bangi and Klang respectively.

His main goal by focusing on water sustainability aimed to help the manufacturing and building sectors to reduce water consumptions via water efficiency and conservation program identified from the detailed assessment. By highlighting the best practices in each area such as washrooms, pantries, canteen, cooling tower, water treatment plant where water can be reuse if reach the minimum usable quality.

Among the recommendations from his assessment are choices on water efficiency in piping, fittings, shower heads and flush buttons. He can also identify and measures water leakage losses in factories and buildings and propose on how to optimize water treatment plant discharge and water reuse activities from the water audit collected data.

Mr. Visnu believes that there are many options in water efficiency practices can be implemented and at the same time will contribute to enhancing the quality and hygiene of the environment.
